A vehicle struck a father and son crossing Ridge Avenue this morning en route to a nearby school.

The 39-year-old father his 5-year-old son were struck at about 8:45 a.m. while crossing Ridge Avenue at Grove Street, police say. The two are both Evanston residents.

Paramedics transported the residents, whose names are not being released, to Evanston Hospital. The father was most recently listed in critical condition, and the son is in stable condition.

Evanston Police closed portions of Ridge Avenue and Grove Street for several hours to conduct an investigation. The unidentified 57-year-old Evanston woman driving the vehicle has not been cited for the incident.
