Update, 4 p.m. Monday:
The church said this afternoon that Murray’s wake starts at 10 a.m. Saturday, and his funeral begins at 11 a.m.
Original story:
Justin Murray’s funeral will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at Faith Temple Church of God in Christ, his mother told The Daily this morning.
The church, 1932 Dewey Ave., is just a few blocks from where the Evanston teenager was shot dead Thursday. Evanston Police do not believe the shooting was random, and there are “initial indicators” that it was a gang-related incident, EPD Cmdr. Jay Parrott said last week.
Carolyn Murray described her 19-year-old son as a “very funny, loving, warm” young man with “a big appetite.” She has been involved in community efforts to reduce violence and helped organize the city’s gun buyback program, which will be held Dec. 15.
“I don’t know how I’m feeling,” Carolyn Murray said Sunday. “I go through so many feelings and emotions every day, every moment. It’s so real.”
Members of the 5th Ward community organized a peace rally Saturday near Evanston Township High School in response to the shooting.
