President Barack Obama this morning seemed to confirm swirling rumors that he will be returning to Chicago on Election Day.

“I don’t know what Election Night will hold, but I’d like you to be a part of the event here in Chicago,” Obama said in an email to supporters. “Any donation you make today automatically enters you for a chance to meet me — airfare and hotel for you and a guest covered.”

A link in the email takes readers to a campaign webpage that says any donation automatically qualifies for a chance “to fly to Chicago to meet President Obama and witness his Election Night speech from the front row.

NBC Chicago reported last week that the Obama campaign is considering McCormick Place for the Election Night event. A similar report surfaced in the Chicago Tribune, which later confirmed the campaign’s selection of the downtown convention center for an Election Night gathering.

In 2008, Obama’s Election Night rally in Grant Park drew nearly a quarter-million people.

Regardless of Obama’s Election Night plans, the president will be back in Chicago on Thursday afternoon to cast an early ballot in the presidential race. Obama will be the first sitting president to vote early in person, according to his campaign.
