The drought survived another year on Sunday as Northwestern missed the NCAA Tournament for the 74thconsecutive year.
“We’re obviously disappointed that we weren’t selected,” coach Bill Carmody said. “But it’s the fourth year in a row that we’re playing in the postseason and you have to move forward.”
Only five schools have been playing Division I basketball since it was first established during the 1947-48 season and not made the Big Dance including NU. The Wildcats are the only team from one of the “Big Six” conferences to never appear in the bracket while the other 73 schools have appeared at least twice.
The team watched the selection show in private and no players were made available after the show to talk.
