Evanston man charged with possession of cocaine
A 41-year-old Evanston resident was arrested Friday in the 400 block of South Boulevard and charged with possession of cocaine.
Plainclothes Evanston Police Department officers observed the man “acting suspiciously” on his bicycle a few blocks east of the Purple Line stop, EPD spokesman Cmdr. Jay Parrott said. The man was riding slowly in a poorly-lit area and repeatedly looked over his shoulder.
When officers approached, the 41-year-old discarded a clear plastic bag containing a white substance, Parrott said.
“He tried to use his foot to grind the substance into the pavement, but officers were able to recover it,” Parrott said.
The man was charged with felonious possession of a controlled substance, resisting a police officer and operating a bicycle without a headlight.
