Drug bust recovers 443 grams of marijuana
Police conducted a drug bust Friday that recovered more than 440 grams of marijuana, according to an Evanston Police Department news release.
EPD’s Neighborhood Enforcement Team entered Darius Darnell Johnson’s house, 7464 N. Damen Ave. in Chicago, to execute a search warrant at around 1 p.m. on Friday, the news release said. EPD found 443.3 grams of a substance that field tested positive for marijuana. Police also found $955 in cash and a scale. Johnson was arrested in the back alley of his house as he was trying to run away from the scene.
Johnson is being charged with unlawful possession of cannabis with intent to deliver, unlawful possession of cannabis and one misdemeanor charge of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. His court date is set for Nov. 9 in Skokie.
EPD, Skokie police arrest two car thieves
Evanston police arrested two men on Oct. 25 who are allegedly responsible for stealing items from unlocked vehicles in the area, according to an EPD news release.
EPD responded to the area of Colfax Street and Ashland Avenue in response to a citizen report of two men attempting to enter vehicles in the area. Officers saw two men matching the description of the report, and when they approached the pair, one of them dropped a purse. EPD searched the two men and found the purse, as well as a Tom Tom GPS unit and a charger.
Police took Leroy Imanuel Anderson and and Cary Fountain into custody. After further questioning, EPD, working in conjunction with Skokie Police, found that both had indeed been stealing items from unlocked vehicles in both Evanston and Skokie.
Anderson and Fountain are each being charged with one count of misdemeanor theft. Their court date is scheduled for Dec. 14 in Skokie.
