The Northwestern Triathlon Club held the Krispy Kreme Doughnut Run 5K Saturday on the south end of the Lakefill at 10 a.m.
Participants could stop at aid stations to eat Krispy Kreme doughnuts along the run’s route. For every doughnut a runner ate, the club subtracted two minutes to his or her time. Proceeds from the run benefitted World Bicycle Relief, an organization that manufactures and distributes bicycles for poverty and disaster relief initiatives, according to its website.
Two students started the Triathlon Club in 2006 while training for their first races. The club currently includes over 50 members who compete in triathalons including USAT Nationals and the Ironman races, according to the club’s website.
