Former HBO interns Medill senior Yoonie Yang and Communication senior Jordan Stone held an exclusive preview party for the third season of HBO’s “Bored to Death” at Nevin’s Irish Pub on Sunday night.
“HBO is holding this event to foster the brand loyalty among students,” said Yang, a former Daily staffer.
Yang and Stone are Northwestern campus ambassadors for HBO.
Fans of the hit comedy series gathered in the back room of the pub, 1454 Sherman Ave., to watch the show’s premiere screening eight days before its release.
The event was held particularly for NU students, Yang said.
The show is about a writer who moonlights as a private detective and stars Jason Schwartzman, Zach Galifianakis and Ted Danson.
“It is a witty show that appeals to Northwestern students,” Yang said.
The entrance to the pub featured a red carpet, and an HBO backdrop was placed next to the entrance for photos to be taken.
“Getting our picture taken feels like it’s Hollywood,” Evanston resident Ava Brannon said.
Approximately 20 people showed up to the event to enjoy free food, drinks and prizes. HBO collaborated with Comcast Xfinity to distribute four flip cameras to raffle winners, Yang said.
“My friend told me about this,” McCormick senior Alex Bradley said. “I liked the show and thought it was a cool opportunity.”
Yang and Stone promoted the event through Facebook while HBO marketers chose its venue.
Bradley, who is a fan of the show, said since he enjoys hanging out at Nevin’s, the watch party was a win-win situation.
Nevin’s pub bartender Joshua Maxson said the pub is usually occupied every weekend with private events.
“It’s a good way to fill up the restaurant,” Maxson said.
