Evanston El stops are covered by the Chicago Transit Authority’s new station renewal plan, and cleanup efforts have already started, according to an email exchange between city officials on Wednesday evening.
In the email conversation, which was forwarded to The Daily, Intergovernmental Affairs Coordinator Matt Swentkofske informed City Manager Wally Bobkiewicz that the Purple Line’s South Boulevard stop has been “worked on over the past few weeks as part of the new program.” That $75,000 project included a station power-washing and partial roof replacement, Swentkofske wrote.
The next Purple Line spot slated for a much-needed spit shine is the Noyes station, according to the emails. Swentkofske said the Noyes stop brushup, which will entail a “deep cleaning,” will begin in a few weeks and continue through early December.
He added the rest of Evanston CTA sites will be addressed in the early part of next summer, with the Davis station kicking off the 2012 leg of the maintenance campaign.
The city officials’ announcement arrives a day after a CTA spokeswoman said Purple Line stops are not yet accounted for in the station renewal program. Neither Swentkofske nor Bobkiewicz could be reached for comment Wednesday night.
