Jeans stolen from consignment store
An unknown suspect stole $100 worth of jeans from Stepping Out on Faith consignment shop, 1632 Orrington Ave., on Tuesday afternoon.
At approximately 2:35 p.m. , Evanston police arrived at the store in regard to a theft, Cmdr. Tom Guenther said. Police then spoke to the proprietor of the shop and learned a middle-aged man had gone into the dressing room with two pairs of blue jeans before leaving the store without rousing suspicion. Yet when the proprietor checked the dressing room, he discovered the jeans were gone and presumably stolen.
Battery under investigation
A man alleged two acquaintances beat him up over a dispute involving gym shoes Tuesday evening.
Police arrived on the 1800 block of Lyons Avenue at approximately 7:36 p.m. in response to a disturbance in an alley, Guenther said.
Officers noticed two people yelling at one man. When they approached the individual, he told police he wanted to be taken to the police department, so police questioned him. The man responded evasively, so police eventually did take him to the station.
At the station, the man told police he had been beaten up by the two other men in the alley, who accused him of stealing a pair of gym shoes. Police are following up on that investigation to find out whether the other two men are culpable.
