Man steals checks, cash from Evanston pilates studio
A man stole checks and cash from Imprint Movement Studios, 1316 Sherman Ave., on Tuesday by impersonating an employee of a bottled water company, police said.
An employee at the pilates studio saw an unknown man wandering through the building Tuesday afternoon, Evanston Police Cmdr. Tom Guenther said. When the employee asked the man what he was doing, he said he worked for Hinckley Springs, which had a truck parked outside the studio.
The studio employee checked with Hinckley Springs and discovered the man was not working for the company, Guenther said. When the studio employee returned to the studio, the man fled.
After inspecting the back office cash box, studio employees concluded the man had stolen $12 and some business checks, Guenther said. Police are still investigating.
Man arrested for tattooing minor
Police arrested Evanston resident Martin Train Arteaga on Tuesday for tattooing a minor, police said.
Police saw Arteaga on a porch in the 1900 block of Jackson Avenue and realized he was wanted for questioning in a juvenile investigation, Guenther said. After speaking to Arteaga, police arrested him for tattooing an underage person.
Arteaga is scheduled to appear in court Aug. 5.
