Second baseman Marisa Bast is a part of a freshman class that made an impact on Northwestern this season. In a lineup filled with speed, Bast has stepped in to provide some much needed power for the Wildcats. She hit .298 with 5 home runs and 26 RBIs, both good for third on the team.
The DAILY spoke with Bast about the simple things in life, getting in the zone and the Lakers. Here are excerpts of that interview.
The Daily: If you were going to write a scouting report on you, what would it say?
Marisa Bast: I’m a very aggressive hitter and I also have a good eye. Possibly susceptible to the rise, but I’m very good at hitting the outside pitch
Daily: What’s your favorite thing to do off the field?
Bast: Definitely spend time with my teammates, we’re definitely a family. So, any time I get to spend with them, we really don’t get sick of each other.
Daily: Do you have any special pregame rituals?
Bast: I do listen to music and I go in the zone. I put my headphones in and listen to music for awhile. I always hit in the same spot when we’re doing pregame.
Daily: What’s on your iPod at the moment?
Bast: I’m a hip hop person, so I’d say a bunch of Wiz Khalifa and Drake and some pump up music too.
Daily: What’s your favorite sport outside of softball?
Bast: Definitely basketball. I’m a Lakers fan from LA.
Daily: What did you think about their series against the Mavericks?
Bast: (laughing hysterically) Definitely disappointed, didn’t think they would go down 4-0.
Daily: Whats the worst part about NU?
Bast: I don’t really have a worst part. Maybe the weather, change the weather.
Daily: What’s been your favorite class you’ve taken at NU?
Bast: Either my Expository Writing class with Jeanne Herrick or my Analysis and Performance of Literature class.
Daily: What’s a surprising fact that nobody would know about you?
Bast: I like the simple things. I appreciate the simple things in life.
