Elise De Los Santos, current managing editor of The Daily, was announced this week as the editor in chief of The Summer Northwestern, the paper’s summer edition.
The Students Publishing Co. Inc., The Daily’s publisher, selected her based on an application and interview process.
De Los Santos, a Medill junior, has also served as news editor for two quarters during her time at The Daily.
“(She) seems very capable and enthusiastic and to have good ideas for The Summer Northwestern,” said Charles Whitaker, SPC board chairman and Medill professor. “We were not only comfortable but thrilled that she did step up to take the position.”
The Daily’s editor in chief, Katherine Driessen, a Medill junior, said she feels fortunate to have worked with De Los Santos as a managing editor.
“Elise is both a wonderful person and a wonderful editor,” she said. “Her editing skills are unparalleled in the newsroom. She is meticulous and thorough in everything she does, and I think she’s going to make The Summer Northwestern incredibly substantive.”
De Los Santos said she is excited to take on the position.
“I’m hoping to use the time to help reporters and editors get more experience,” she said, “so they can continue helping out at The Daily in the fall.”
