Evanston liquor board will consider Tilted Kilt’s license request
Community organizers are gearing up for tonight’s liquor control board meeting, which will address whether the city should extend a liquor license to the proposed Tilted Kilt restaurant in downtown Evanston’s Fountain Square Building.
Evanston resident and lawyer Cynthia Farenga said she expects several opponents of the Celtic-themed eatery to read prepared statements.
The online petition she started with fellow attorney Kathleen Flahery has garnered more than 1,600 signatures since its creation Thursday morning. But Farenga predicted tonight’s turnout will be much slimmer compared to that generous statistic.
“I certainly wouldn’t expect that number of people to show up, but we do have a lot of interest,” she said.
Farenga added that the city function will allow both Tilted Kilt critics and proponents to finally confront Evanston businessman Ted Mavrakis, who originally applied for the operational license.
The liquor control board meeting will be held in room 2200 of the Lorraine H. Morton Civic Center, 2100 Ridge Ave., at 6 p.m. tonight.
