The First Date: Special Tricks
This is it. You asked her out. He finally said yes. Everyone knows the basics of a first date: You wear nice clothes, pick up the check and tell them about the plantar warts on the bottom of your feet. I’m kidding! Don’t say that last one! Wait until at least Date No. 3. Besides the basics, here are some subtle moves to ensure a second date.
The Bachelor Pad.
Invite him or her upstairs for a minute before you leave for the date. A brief hello with roommates or cold beer from the fridge really shows your date a lot about who you are. You’ve probably decorated your college residence to reflect your personality, so this is an easy way to show them who you are at home.
Can I Take Your Order?
Flirt with your waiter or waitress. Never cause your date discomfort, but some friendly banter will make you seem more desirable. Don’t lose track of who you’re really trying to impress, but displaying your social skills heightens the thrill of the chase.
Check Please!
Help out with the restaurant tip or pick up the bill for ice cream later. If he or she picks up the movie tickets, splurge for some popcorn. If you’re the the invitee, demonstrate your generosity. Contributing to the check puts less pressure on your date and makes you seem like a more desirable partner.
The Glance.
If you’ve had a good time on the first date, The Glance may be the most crucial step to ensuring a second. While talking at the door, the best way to invite a goodnight kiss is to stare deeply into your date’s eyes and glance ever so coyly at their lips. The Glance can happen in waves of twos and threes or one long look. Use The Glance responsibly.
