Because we’re too busy to watch TV…

For those of you who are distraught about the Bears’ loss to the Packers or even to those who could care less, let’s recap my current top 3 television shows from last week:

“Pretty Little Liars” brought out the best in A and the worst in pretty much everyone’s families. Emily’s mom continues to hate her girlfriend and makes sure Em can’t see her anymore, Aria’s brother hangs out with A suspect Noel Kahn, Hannah’s mom is still reeling from losing the money kept in the lasagna, and Spencer’s sister is dropping her life dreams to have Ian’s baby after weeks of marriage. The end of the episode leaves A’s identity just as much of a mystery, especially after we see more of the video of the night Allison died.

On “Modern Family,” everyone’s acting like a kid, except the two most child-like adults, Phil and Claire. They’re get caught getting it on for their anniversary, and after washing out their eyes, the kids get the heck out of the house before their parents can try to talk to them about it. Gloria mistakenly sends a harsh email to Claire and has to deal with the consequences while Cam and Mitchell spill a juice box on a $50,000 rug that’s supposed to be their ticket to an “in” with a close restaurant. Despite some cringe-worthy subject matter, this episode rocks because Luke and Phil shined with what they do best: dumb and adorably awkward, respectively.

“Community” was back in top form – the brown Jamie Lee Curtis and the gang were back with tons of comedy and ridiculous meta references. After Jeff tells Theo from the Cosby Show (actor Malcolm Jamal Warner as Shirley’s ex-husband and current boyfriend) that he likes his bright Cosby sweater, Theo tells him that “he got it from his dad.” Community won my Thursday night by keeping the Jeff-Annie tension, giving Troy awesome one-liners as he wishes his brain were farther away from his mouth, and by bringing in so many tertiary characters (the doctor/potter/budding anthropologist!) but still keeping the gang tight-knit and hilarious.
