Officer shoots teen during foot chase
A police officer shot a teenager in the shoulder during a foot chase Friday night. The teenager was allegedly firing shots at a vehicle and refused to comply with officers after they confronted him, according to a news release from the Evanston Police Department.
Officers were patrolling near the intersection of Dodge Avenue and Church Street around 8:15 p.m. Friday, when they supposedly saw someone standing in front of a house on 1715 Dodge Ave. and shooting a handgun at a vehicle driving west in an alley on the 1900 block of Church Street, according to the release.
The officers stopped their patrol car, but it slid on the ice and crashed into a stationary object. The pair, neither of whom were hurt during the accident, got out of the car and chased after the teen, who ran down an alley on the 1700 block of Dodge Avenue.
When the teenager refused to comply with the police, one of the officers pulled out his gun and shot him in the left shoulder. He was taken to Evanston Hospital and is in stable condition, according to the release.
The Integrity Unit of the Illinois State Police was called to the scene to investigate the shooting.
