Officials are investigating after someone reported a burning car on Sunday, police said.
Police and firefighters responded to a fire call at 3:30 a.m. on the 2000 block of Hamlin Street, Evanston Police Cmdr. Tom Guenther said.
Upon arrival, police found a parked 1997 Buick on fire. A chemical test confirmed evidence of petroleum coating the car.
The owner of the car was at home during fire and during the subsequent police investigation. Police have no leads as to why the car was set on fire.
The case is under investigation.
Intoxicated student taken to Evanston Hospital Monday night
University Police took an intoxicated minor to the hospital Monday night after a SafeRide driver informed a Community Service Officer of the minor’s condition, police said.
The student had just left a party at the fraternity quad around 2:30 a.m., University Police Deputy Chief Dan McAleer said. Police noticed she could not stand unassisted and smelled strongly of alcohol, he said.
Police transferred her to Evanston Hospital, 2650 Ridge Ave., and referred her to Student Affairs.
Drunk NU student arrested after police find fake ID
Evanston Police arrested a Northwestern student at 1420 Chicago Ave. after finding his fake identification, police said.
At approximately 2 a.m. Tuesday, police responded to a report of a person kicking and punching the front door of an apartment complex, Guenther said. Upon arrival, police confronted the intoxicated minor and conducted a search, which led police to find a fake ID.
The student’s trial is scheduled for Feb. 16.
