For the second year in a row, A&O Productions will bring the star of a popular sitcom to Northwestern during Winter Quarter.
Aziz Ansari, famous for his role as Tom Haverford on the popular NBC show “Parks and Recreation,” will perform Friday, Jan. 28 at Pick-Staiger Concert Hall. This follows last year’s controversial performance by Tracy Morgan, the star of “30 Rock,” also a popular show on NBC.
The show is being co-sponsored by the South Asian Student Alliance and the Muslim-cultural Students Association. The ability to pool the resources of the three groups created greater opportunities for the event, organizers said.
Ansari’s performance will be the culmination of several years of work by the organization, according to Elsa Stahura, co-chair of marketing and promotions for A&O.
“We’ve really been trying to get him for the past few years,” the Communication junior said.
This is the first time since 2006 that either McSA or SASA has worked with A&O. McSA and SASA collaborate each winter to hold an entertainment event, McSA president Noreen Nasir said. This was the “perfect opportunity” to bring in A&O, the Medill senior said.
The broad appeal of Ansari was important in his selection, Nasir said.
“He is South Asian, (and) a lot of our constituents are South Asian,” she said. “We always try to bring someone who appeals to both groups.”
Tickets will go on sale for the show Jan. 21. Tickets will cost $10 and students will be able to purchase up to two tickets with their NetID. A&O will reserve the right to check WildCARDs at the door.
Before beginning “Parks and Recreation,” Ansari created and starred in MTV’s “Human Giant.” He began performing stand-up as a student at New York University. Ansari recently released a CD called “Intimate Moments for a Sensual Evening.”
