Starting running back Mike Trumpy will sit out Saturday’s game at Wisconsin with a wrist injury, according to Northwestern athletic department’s weekly injury release.
No other information on Trumpy’s injury was disclosed. The redshirt freshman played last week against Illinois and ran for 129 yards and two touchdowns, including an 80-yard score, and leads the team in rushing yardage with 530 yards on the season.
The other new addition to this week’s report is junior linebacker Ben Johnson, who was listed as out with a head injury.
As of Monday, Trumpy’s backup in the depth chart was freshman running back Adonis Smith. The Oakland, Calif. native has amassed 106 yards on 26 carries this season, including 44 yards on 10 carries in a loss against Michigan State. Former starter junior Jacob Schmidt remains out with an injured ankle.
