Members of the Northwestern News Network are celebrating after winning two awards at the Collegiate Chicago/Midwest Emmy ceremony Saturday night.
The NU television network, which historically has picked up a few awards each year, grabbed two Saturday for production on two of the networks shows: Northwestern News Report and SportsNight.
Medill sophomore Jon Rosenberg, producer for SportsNight, attended the ceremony to accept the award on behalf of his program. He credited an incredibly dedicated staff as the reason for the quality of their shows.
“People are in McTrib all day and all night,” Rosenberg said. “It’s a reflection of all the hard work we put in.”
NNN relies entirely on students and broadcasts predominantly online. The newscast has provided students with an NU-centered news report for more than a decade, and continues to expand and grow. Last year the Northwestern News Report won a Chicago/Midwest Emmy for a presidential election piece produced in 2008.
Lawrence Stuelpnagel, NNN’s faculty advisor, sent an e-mail to Medill faculty Sunday, commending the network’s efforts and dedication to the shows.
“NNN is a totally volunteer effort by the student,” he said. “They do it because they love news.”
