Four men hit a man and took his wallet on the 200 block of Sheridan Road on Tuesday, police said.
The group approached the victim near midnight, and one member asked him for a cigarette, Evanston Police Cmdr. Tom Guenther said.
The victim handed over the cigarette, and as he turned around to leave, one of the men struck him across the right side of the face, Guenther said.
The suspects demanded the victim’s wallet, which contained an ID and credit cards, and promptly fled when the victim handed it over, he said.
