For the first time in the event’s history, Dance Marathon participants won’t need to trek to Norris University Center to register for the 30-hour philanthropy event.
Registration, exclusively online for the 37th annual Dance Marathon, will take place next Monday through Friday. Compared to last year, when registration was held in Norris for only two days, this year students will be able to register any time, day or night, for five days.
“Hopefully it will be easier for everyone involved,” DM co-Chair Julie Sher said. “People can register from the comfort of their room.”
The new digitized system is easier for DM organizers too, the Communication senior said.
Participants must register in pairs and pay a $45 fee per person. Fees can be paid online or by cash or check delivered to the DM offices in Norris. The DM executive board will have a table in Norris next Monday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. to collect registration fees and answer questions.
“This is an effort to make the entire process more streamlined and convenient,” DM co-Chair Catrina Miksis said.
Dancers can register with a team or as independent pairs and must digitally sign an online liability waiver.
Last year’s DM raised $854,396. This year’s proceeds will go to the Children’s Heart Foundation – an organization which funds research into the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of congenital heart defects – and the Evanston Community Foundation, which funds various causes in Evanston.
“We get many requests from organizations, and we read through them all to find one that will use the funds to directly impact people in need,” said Miksis, a McCormick senior. “The Children’s Heart Foundation will use the funds to research congenital heart defects and increase family support programs.”
