The state of Illinois is lifting a liquor license suspension today for the Jewel-Osco grocery store on 1128 Chicago Ave., a store manager said Monday.
The Illinois Liquor Control Commission suspended the store’s liquor license for a week after failed compliance checks, Administrative Adjudication Manager Wendy McCambridge said.
The store failed a third annual compliance check in less than two years on Feb. 24, 2010, McCambridge said. On the commission’s website, the store was also cited for “sale of alcohol to a minor,” on June 6, 2008, and Sept. 9, 2009.
According to the citation docket on the commission’s website, a $25,000 order imposing fine has been issued for the store.
“I’m glad the state is taking action when there are problems,” said Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl, who serves as the city’s local liquor control commissioner.
Karen May, communications manager for Jewel-Osco, declined to comment on the liquor license suspension, saying the details of the incident are “confidential.”
The store’s alcohol aisles were sectioned off with caution tape while the license was suspended.
