Woman stuck in elevator rescued by firefighters
A woman trapped in an elevator Monday night was rescued by the Evanston Fire Department, a University Police official said Tuesday.
The elevator stopped on the second floor of the Northwestern-owned building at 1801 Maple Ave., at 10:35 p.m., UP Deputy Chief Dan McAleer said. NU facilities management personnel were unable to open the doors.
When the fire department arrived, they successfully opened the doors without causing damage, McAleer said.
Sheridan home burglarized, game system, laptop stolen
Burglars entered a residential building on the 900 block of Sheridan Road Monday afternoon by breaking open a back window, an Evanston Police Department official said Tuesday.
Officers arrived on the scene and spoke to a woman who said she left her house at 1:20 p.m., EPD Cmdr. Tom Guenther said. She received a phone call from her son at 4:30 p.m. telling her the house had been burglarized.
Among the items taken were a video game system, computer, laptop and monitor, Guenther said.
Police are investigating.
