Taxi driver punched at Shell gas station
A man attacked a taxi driver at a gas station Tuesday morning, police said.
The taxi driver tried to reverse his cab toward what he thought was an unoccupied gas pump at a Shell gas station, 101 Ridge Ave., around 7:51 a.m., Evanston Police Cmdr. Tom Guenther said. A man yelled at the driver and punched the taxi door, Guenther said.
When the driver exited the car, the man approached him and yelled, Guenther said. The man hit the driver in the face, then escaped in a red SUV with another person.
The driver, who suffered a contusion to the face, received medical treatment, Guenther said.
Police are still investigating.Student faints during H1N1 vaccinations
Paramedics took a Northwestern student to the hospital Tuesday while H1N1 vaccinations were being administered, police said.
A student on the second floor of Norris University Center, 1999 Campus Drive, where the vaccines were being administered, told a police officer she felt like she was going to faint around 11:30 a.m., University Police Deputy Chief Daniel McAleer said. A paramedic who was already present treated the student.
Although McAleer could not confirm the student had received the vaccine prior to feeling faint, he said he assumed so.
An ambulance took the student to Evanston Hospital, 2650 Ridge Ave., around 11:50 a.m., McAleer said.-KATIE PARK
