Updated Nov. 3, 11:34 p.m.
Performer Lupe Fiasco, actor Michael Ealy and producer Anthony Arnove will appear at Northwestern on Nov. 11 as part of a live preview of a new History Channel documentary.
The documentary, “The People Speak,” premieres Dec. 13 and is a series of dramatic and musical performances of the words of dissidents in American history. Matt DaMonday, Josh Brolin, Chris Moore and historian Howard Zinn also produced the film.
Lupe Fiasco will not perform music, but instead will read excerpts from the film with Ealy, who has appeared in “Seven Pounds” and “Hawthorne,” said James D’Angelo, Weinberg ’09, a consultant at the firm handling publicity for the event. After the readings, Lupe Fiasco, Ealy and Arnove will hold a discussion with the audience, he said.
The NU event is part of an eight-university promotional tour, with different combinations of the cast and producers at each school. New York University, for instance, will host Matt Damon and Howard Zinn, while the GW Hatchet at George Washington University confirmed Lupe Fiasco and Chris Moore will appear at their school.
Doors will open at 7:30 p.m. at Leverone Auditorium and will require WildCARD for entry. Tickets are available on the History Channel Web site.
Judith Cooper, Assistant Director Center for Student Involvement Coordinator, Programs or Campus Programs, said there will be a related event Nov. 9.
The event, which will be held at 7:30 p.m. in Ryan Auditorium, will bring together student organizations, academic programs and departments, and faculty members to discuss activism at NU, said producer Kaasha Benjamin, a Weinberg sophomore.
As a precursor to the Nov. 11 event, those in attendance will be encouraged to come on stage to discuss the roles they have played in activism, Benjamin said.
