Four years. Four national championships. Two back-to-back Tewaaraton Trophy winners.
Northwestern senior Hannah Nielsen won the Tewaaraton Trophy winner, becoming the school’s second straight player to win the award in back-to-back years.
A season after tallying 51 goals and 63 assists, Nielsen registered an NCAA-best 142 points, including a single-season record 83 assists in helping the Wildcats win their fifth straight national championship in 2009.
In 2006 and 2007, NU’s Kristen Kjellman won the award, which is the Heisman Trophy of lacrosse.
Nielsen beat out Caitlyn McFadden of Maryland, Jillian Byers of Notre Dame, Carolyn Davis of Duke and Amber Falcone of North Carolina for the award.
On goals that she didn’t score herself, Nielsen recorded an assist on 20 percent of NU’s scores.
Nielsen also tallied six assists in Sunday’s national championship 21-7 win over North Carolina.
