The Iranian appeals court hearing for jailed Medill alumna Roxana Saberi is scheduled for Sunday, not Tuesday, according to international news sources. Saberi’s lawyer was alerted to the change after the paper Saberi signed to allow a review of her case file was lost.
Saberi was arrested in January for allegedly buying wine. She was then charged for reporting in Iran without press credentials, and then espionage.
Saberi was sentenced to eight years in prison after what many called an “unfair” trial.
The earlier date of the trial might make it more difficult for Saberi’s lawyer to win an acquittal or a more favorable sentence, as it will allow him less time to review the case, according to news sources.
