D65, D202 boards recognize their outgoing members

Transition was the main item on the agenda at Monday’s meeting of the Evanston/Skokie School District 65 School Board. Attendees recognized the contributions of outgoing members and ended with a look to the future of the newly elected board.

Speakers took the podium to honor outgoing board president Mary Erickson and eight-year board member Mary Rita Luecke at their final school board meeting.

“You have never forgotten who your constituents are,” said Evanston resident Kristin Brown. “You were not appointed by the administration, but were elected by the people of Evanston, and part of Skokie, to hold the administration accountable.”

Board member Jerome Summers said he admired Erickson’s dedication to the board after 12 years of service.

“She was able to maintain that passion for all these years, hanging in that whole time and trying to be fair and represent the whole community,” Summers said.

Superintendent Hardy Murphy administered the oath of office and board member code of conduct to new arrivals Tracy Quattrocki and Kim Weaver and re-elected board members Andrew Pigozzi and Jerome Summers. Keith Terry was elected board president and Jerome Summers was elected vice president.

Also Monday, the Evanston Township High School Board of Education meeting officially reinstated incumbent president Martha Burns and vice president Rachel Hayman, and introduced newcomers Gretchen Livingston and Deborah Graham.
