Alpha Phi Alpha and Kappa Alpha Theta teamed up Saturday to host the Black and Gold Bowl, a flag football tournament featuring students from all four Greek councils: the Interfraternity Council, Multicultural Greek Council, National Pan-Hellenic Council and Panhellenic Association.
The event, held on Deering Field, lasted from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. and drew a crowd of about 200 people at its biggest point, said Allison Wessel, vice president of public relations for Theta.
“I would definitely consider it a success, especially since it was our first year,” the Communication junior said.
“It reflected exactly what we wanted it to – people hanging out with others they haven’t met before or wouldn’t normally hang out with,” she said.
Along with making it an annual event, Wessel said she hopes other sororities and fraternities will be inspired to create their own events to encourage more interaction between members of the Greek community.
“We got a really great response from everyone who participated but we really wanted to … just create more interaction between the four councils,” she said.
