Three people held up a Main Street bank Thursday afternoon, police said.
Two men and one woman entered the First Bank and Trust, 741 Main St., just before 2 p.m. Thursday, according to a statement released by the Evanston Police Department.
One of the men gave the teller a bag and a note demanding the bag be filled with money, the release said. No weapon was displayed.
The teller filled the bag and the man grabbed it and ran from the bank with the other two robbers.
The three subjects were all described as in their 20s. The men were tall, with medium builds, while the woman was short and thin, wearing a white jacket and dark pants, the release said. They were last seen running north on Sherman Avenue.
Nobody has been arrested or charged, said a representative from the Chicago division of the FBI, who is working with EPD to investigate.
Employees at the branch acknowledged the robbery occurred but declined comment. One customer said the incident surprised him.
“I’m kind of disturbed that it was robbed,” said Jesse Miller, 27, who found out about the robbery when he arrived at the bank. “It’s not something I’d expect.”
Several police officers were still milling around the branch when Miller arrived. When he approached the door, an EPD evidence technician told him the bank was closed, and Miller walked back to his bicycle confused.
“I came to order checks,” the customer said. “I guess I have to wait until tomorrow.”
The location may have been a target due to its size, Miller said.
“It’s a small community bank,” he said. “And I like that. They’re very friendly.”
