Woman found dead in South Evanston home

Authorities have not yet released results from the autopsy of a woman found dead with burn injuries in her south Evanston home Friday morning.

Police have been investigating the death of Eva Marie Toney, 45, since a relative discovered her body just after 8 a.m. Friday at her home on 1727 Howard St., according to a statement released Friday by the Evanston Police Department.

An autopsy was conducted Saturday, but the results were not available Sunday, said an employee with the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Although police and fire units could not determine the cause or manner of Toney’s death, “the residence showed evidence of a slight fire,” according to the press release.

The EPD’s Detective Bureau and the North Regional Major Crimes Task Force are investigating the death, and the Fire Marshall’s Office has been notified, the statement read.
