For Hariharan ‘Harry’ Vijayaraghavan, running for ASG office is about leaving his mark on campus and giving back.
“For almost a year now, I’ve been planning to run for ASG,” the Weinberg junior said. “NU has been the most important experience of my life. I owe a lot to NU and I want to make a difference before my time here is over.”
Though he has not held a position in Associated Student Government before, Vijayaraghavan said he counts this as one of his strengths. He has other skills necessary for the position, he said, and does not believe prior experience in student government necessarily makes the best candidate.
“First, I hardly think that ‘what has been done in ASG’ is the way to approach ASG and innovation,” Vijayaraghavan said. “I’ve had my hand in a lot of activities and to that extent I feel like I’m very representative of many students at Northwestern. That kind of outlook is something I could bring in because I haven’t been a part of ASG.”
Vijayaraghavan counts the experiences of Dance Marathon, both Greek and non-Greek life, club sports and managing campus fitness centers among those that have prepared him for this position.
“He’s really trying to be the voice of the students,” the McCormick sophomore said. “Harry’s looking for a direct change right now because the people that are voting for him are only going to be students for the next three years or two years or one year.”
