I buy everything at CVS/pharmacy. I buy chapstick and cough medicine, stockings and school supplies. I also buy bread and peanut butter, granola bars and Sun Chips, microwaveable pizzas and chocolate-covered ice cream nuggets. Besides drugs, cosmetics and stationary, CVS is also the supplier of all food I eat outside of the dining halls. It’s true, I’m too cheap to shop at Whole Foods Market, and I’m not afraid to deny it.
As the only real supermarket in reach of my car-less freshman hands, Whole Foods is a healthy, organic alternative to gorging on curly fries at Norris University Center. It is also a drain on my limited college student budget. I have heard of the Jewel/Osco south of Dempster, but it’s far, far away, and outside the borders of my first-year knowledge of Evanston.
I would love to be able to make a home-cooked meal once in a while to complement the paucity of my Block D meal plan. Unfortunately, the cost of groceries at the only supermarket nearby is comparable to three Stackers, chicken fingers, fries and a drink at Burger King. Freshman 15, here I come.
