After 26 years at Northwestern, Carol Lunkenheimer, dean for undergraduate admissions, said she plans to retire by the end of this quarter.
“I’m old now,” said Lunkenheimer, who told administrators of her decision a year ago. “I’m ready to retire.”
Lunkenheimer spent a total of 37 years in college admissions. In her work in undergraduate admissions at NU, she met with deans, faculty and staff of the six undergraduate schools to discuss how to best market NU to interested applicants.
She also dealt with a change in SAT format and NU’s move to the Common Application.
“Northwestern’s a great place to work,” Lunkenheimer said. “But I’m ready now to start a new chapter in my life.
“I will certainly miss Northwestern.”
University administrators are still in the process of selecting a replacement for Lunkenheimer.
Administrators interviewed candidates last month and will offer the position to a selected candidate during the summer, according to Lunkenheimer. The new dean will begin work in Fall Quarter.
