Who says life doesn’t imitate art? When relationship-guru Marin Frist’s (Anne Heche) latest relationship ended in a shambles, she moved to Elmo, Alaska hoping to escape the male sex for good.
Of course, it turns out that men make up about 90 percent of Elmo’s population, resulting in endless Northern Exposure-meets-Sex and the City romantic-comedy hijinks.
In Wednesday’s episode, “The Indecent Proposal,” Marin takes her relationship with new beau Cash (Scott Elrod) to the next level, after having dumped rugged naturalist Jack (James Tupper) several weeks ago.
Battlestar GalacticaFriday 9 p.m.
Virgil’s Aeneid in space, Battlestar Galactica stars Edward James Olmos and Mary McDonnell as the leaders of a destroyed civilization who must lead the scattered remnants of humanity to the promised land, Earth, while evading their robotic Cylon enemies. The show addresses contemporary political issues from an allegorical perspective.
Sunday’s episode is a “bottle” show, meaning that it takes place entirely indoors and not on location. The story revolves around Adm. Adama’s (Olmos) marriage, giving Olmos a chance to show the great humanity that lies beneath his character’s tough skin. Battlestar inverts sci-fi storytelling by making inner space even more interesting than outer space. The best show on TV. Period.
LostWednesday, 9 p.m.
Finally, we’re getting answers! It was looking like Lost was mired in the same swamp of disconnected mythologies that sank Alias, but I should have never doubted. The interminable three-month, mid-season hiatus gave way to a crop of fresh, dynamic episodes that have put the show back on track.
Wednesday’s episode features yet another flashback for Jack (Matthew Fox) – who’s now alone at the mercy of the Others, and they aren’t too pleased with the good doctor right now. Expect to learn more about the Others’ motivations as they determine Jack’s fate after his bold gambit to free fellow captives Kate (Evangeline Lilly) and Sawyer (Josh Holloway).
