Pippin will be coming to the Louis Theatre, 20 Arts Circle Dr., on Jan. 26, 27, 31 and Feb. 1, 2, 3 at 8 p.m. and Jan. 28 and Feb. 4 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $25 for the general public, $22 for Northwestern faculty and staff and $10 for students.
The award-winning show tells a coming-of-age story of Charlemagne’s oldest son. Pippin, after experiencing the complicated worlds of love, war and politics, eventually discovers his true loves – family and home.
Director Dominic Missimi first directed the show 25 years ago. He says in a press release he is a fan of the “comedia del’arte” but is updating this production to include more modern costumes and moving towers in the set.
The show, which won six Tony Awards in 1972, features musical styles ranging from ballads to dance numbers. Stephen Schwartz, who is both an Academy Award and Grammy Award winner, wrote the play’s music and lyrics, which show heavy influences from pop music. Bob Fosse was the show’s original director and choreographer.
WAVE Productions will be performing The Goat, or Who is Sylvia? at Shanley Pavilion Thursday, Jan. 25 at 8 p.m. and Friday, Jan. 26 and Saturday, Jan. 27 at 8 and 11 p.m.
The show is a look at a seemingly wholesome suburban family whose world is rocked by a father’s unimaginable transgression. The Goat, or Who is Sylvia? is the Northwestern premiere of the Edward Albee play that ran on Broadway in 2002 and won the 2002 Tony Award for Best Play.
Albee also wrote Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? and won Pulitzers for A Delicate Balance in 1966, Seascape in 1975 and Three Tall Women.
