I’ve always taken huge issue with The Daily’s terrible Medill bias. Yes, Medill should be getting coverage because of all the big changes and whatnot, but do you honestly think that the coverage is proportional both to the extent of the changes, and to the number of students that the changes affect?
Did you know that in 2005, the engineering school got a new dean too? Where are the stories about the changes that he’s made? (And if you don’t think he’s making big changes, take a look at the April. 12, 2005, story titled, “New McCormick dean stresses research over teaching.”) Have you seen any follow-up stories to this since? No, but there’s no shortage of self-pitying cover stories about how Medill freshmen now have to buy digital cameras. When was the last story you saw that was even remotely related to SESP? The School of Music?

Public editor’s response: You bring up several valid points. While I would not say The Daily covers Medill too much, I agree that editors could better cover other schools.
