MADISON, Wis. – The Six-Inch War.
This was the first thing we heard about after Northwestern’s second-half implosion at Wisconsin on Saturday.
Despite a 60-yard touchdown run by P.J. Hill on the second play from scrimmage, and having only three points to show for three Badger turnovers, the Wildcats were only one score behind at the half.
Twenty-four points later, NU left Madison with nothing but a bitter taste in its mouth.
And it was all because of a Six-Inch War.
Don’t get me wrong. As a severely mediocre lineman in high school, I am more than familiar with how poor line play can stifle an offense, but a 32-point shellacking is hardly the result of merely getting beat off the line.
It’s the result of getting beaten everywhere. And yet, after the game coach Pat Fitzgerald’s opening statement read like a how-to of gridiron clich
