The Evanston Police Department is continuing to investigate the death of an Evanston woman found stabbed in her apartment on the 1100 block of Ashland Avenue on Nov. 27, said Deputy Chief Joseph Bellino of the Evanston Police Department.
“We’re going over leads and retracing our steps,” Bellino said. “Crime Stoppers is involved and is offering a $1,000 reward for any information in regard to the homicide.”
EPD officers found the body of Linda Twyman, 43, after entering the apartment through an open door, Bellino said in a November press release.
Lacerations were found on the upper part of her torso, according to the press release. Twyman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Twyman’s family and friends have distributed 1,500 flyers throughout the Evanston community to aid the EPD effort to continue the investigation, Bellino said.
EPD officers arrived at her residence after a call from a witness at about 10:12 p.m., Bellino said. The witness heard screams coming from the apartment building, alerting police to the area, and told police officers at least two subjects had been seen in hooded shirts leave from the back of the building, he said.
Bellino did not say whether the incident was random or if Twyman was a specific target.
The North Regional Major Crimes Task Force is aiding EPD in investigating the death, Bellino said.
This is the second homicide in Evanston this year. The first was the June shooting at The Keg, 810 Grove St. There were three homicides in Evanston in 2004. The most recent of those occurred on the 1600 block of Fowler Avenue in West Evanston.
The flyers label those responsible for the crime as being “armed and dangerous,” and urge community residents not to try stopping those involved but to call Crime Stoppers anonymously 1-800-535-7867 with any tips.
