An Evanston woman was found stabbed to death in her apartment on the 1100 block of Ashland Avenue Sunday night, said Deputy Chief Joseph Bellino of the Evanston Police Department in a press release.
Officers found the body of Linda Twyman, 43, after entering the apartment through an open door, Bellino said in the press release. Lacerations were found on the upper part of her torso and EPD said she is an “apparent victim of foul play.”
Twyman was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the press release.
EPD officers arrived at the residence after a call from a witness at about 10:12 p.m., according to the press release. The witness heard screams coming from the apartment building and told police at least two subjects had been seen in hooded shirts leave from the back of the building, Bellino said in the release.
EPD did not say whether the incident was random or if Twyman was a specific target. The North Regional Major Crimes Task Force is investigating the death, Bellino said in the release.
The apartment building lies in Evanston’s Second Ward. Ald. Lionel Jean-Baptiste (2nd) did not return phone calls for comment Monday afternoon.
This is the second homicide in Evanston this year. The first was the June shooting at The Keg, 810 Grove St. There were three homicides in Evanston in 2004. The most recent of those occurred on the 1600 block of Fowler Avenue in West Evanston.
