A 26-year-old Evanston woman was robbed Tuesday west of downtown, according to the Evanston Police Department.
The victim, a Roosevelt University student, told police she was walking west on Davis Street at Asbury Avenue at about 9:55 p.m. when an 18-to-25-year-old man approached her from behind and tried to snatch her purse from her right shoulder, according to an EPD report.
As the victim struggled for her purse, the suspect pulled her to the ground and dragged her for five feet along the sidewalk. He seized the purse, which contained $10, a cell phone and other items, and fled west on Davis, the report said.
The woman was left with a bruised wrist and a sore hip but declined medical attention. Later in the evening, police detectives found her purse, along with its contents, next to a garage on the 1600 block of Wesley Avenue.
This fall, six Northwestern students have been victims of street crimes on and near campus.
