Armed with lawyers and explanations, students walked into the Evanston Civic Center to protest citations for offenses ranging from underage drinking to riding a bicycle on a downtown sidewalk.
In a series of hearings Tuesday afternoon held at the Civic Center, 2100 Ridge Ave., an administrative law judge issued fines totaling $3,050 to 23 residents for violations of city law.
Out of those 23, at least 10 were Northwestern students who were ordered to pay a combined $1,475.
In the same room where aldermen meet twice a month to make new ordinances, Lester Bonaguro, the judge, interpreted those laws.
