Special features not so ‘Incredible’

“We’ve tried to jam as many cool things as we could on this DVD,” says Brad Bird, writer and director of “The Incredibles,” which follows a family of washed-up superheroes who band together to reclaim their former glory.

But judging by the less-than-incredible extras, quantity does not necessarily spawn quality.

The first disc allows viewers to watch the movie with a so-so commentary from Bird, producer John Walker and a group of animators. The second disc includes the making of the movie, secret files that tell of the superheroes’ lives during their early years and a reel of not-so-funny blunders.

One extra spared from mediocrity, however, is the short film “Jack Jack Attack,” which shows what happens when “multi-gifted” super baby Jack Jack is left with a babysitter. The mini-movie is entertaining, but not enough to compensate for the rest of the DVD’s lackluster special features.

Though the feature film itself may be incredible, the special features fail to pack an equally potent punch.
