And we all thought David Schwimmer was Northwestern’s closest Friend.
NU viewers of NBC’s “Joey” — the slightly less-popular spin-off of “Friends” — watched in shocked amusement Thursday night when loveable buffoon Joey Tribbiani came onscreen adorned in a purple NU t-shirt.
In the episode, Joey, played for the last decade by Matt LeBlanc, finds himself without acting work or connections. So, naturally, he tells a friend he graduated from NU in 1991. To much hilarity, Joey is later asked to sing the fight song at an alumni association meeting and fails. It’s unclear if that made his lie more or less obvious.
NU — which famously denied to be featured prominently in 1999’s hit movie “American Pie” — does in fact have a fabled “Northwestern mafia” in Los Angeles.
But it’s nice to see an unemployed NU theater grad finally get a break.
