One Northwestern student was the victim of an armed robbery andanother was assaulted and robbed in two apparently unrelatedincidents Sunday night and early Friday morning.
A news alert posted late Sunday night on the university Web sitesaid two suspects in an armed robbery of a student were being heldfor questioning.
An officer answering the phone at University Police early thismorning confirmed an incident took place Sunday night involving aNorthwestern student but offered no further details.
According to the Web site, the student was accosted by two menat about 8:30 p.m. Sunday near the intersection of Clark Street andSheridan Road. The men brandished a gun, demanded money from thestudent and took $20 from the victim before fleeing south onbicycles.
A short time later, officers from the Evanston Police Departmentstopped two men matching the description of the robbers, maleswearing hooded sweatshirts. EPD reportedly found a 9 mm gun and a$20 bill in the possession of the two men.

Another student also was assaulted and robbed early Fridaymorning near the intersection of Ridge Avenue and Garnett Place,police said. The 20-year-old Weinberg junior was walking north onthe 1900 block of Ridge at about 1:25 a.m. when he was approachedby two men, said Cmdr. Joe Bellino of EPD.
The men tackled the male student to the ground and punched himfour to five times in the face, Bellino said. The victim, who didnot wish to be identified, told The Daily he was walking home froma friend’s house when one man approached him from behind while theother “just started whopping me in the face.”
The men stole the victim’s black leather wallet — containing$400 in cash, a credit card and driver’s license — before runningeast on Foster Street, police said. The victim was unable to givepolice a physical description of the offenders, he said. He toldThe Daily the men looked like they were about 20 or 21 yearsold.
According to police reports, the victim appeared to beintoxicated and had a swollen left eye after the robbery. He toldThe Daily he “had a few drinks” and needed to be hospitalizedovernight after being assaulted.
Officers from both UP and EPD searched the area but did notlocate the two men, Bellino said.
