Fight against lake pollution
I have to admit that it’s fairly disconcerting to read in the Oct. 7, 2004 article on extending Lake Shore Drive by Breanne Gilpatrick that some feel a drive through our wonderful Rogers Park community is a “disconnect.” But if you want to avoid “that horrible driving stretch from Hollywood (Avenue) to Calvary Cemetery” here’s an idea for you: public transit. You can read the paper, listen to music, chat with your neighbors and help protect the environment.
Activists in Rogers Park have fought since the 1950s to preserve the beautiful lakeshore and open public beaches of Rogers Park. We will continue to fight efforts to pollute the water with oily marinas, to replace the quiet lake vista with the lights and constant hum of eight lanes of traffic, and to pour miles of concrete into the lake. Our current effort involves a referendum on the Nov. 2 ballot in Rogers Park’s lakefront precincts which has recieved widespread media coverage. We welcome Evanston residents to support us in this fight. For more
