When Jitim Young told Tom Izzo no, it was something the Michigan State coach was unaccustomed to hearing.
The Chicago native passed up a scholarship offer from the Spartans and instead chose Northwestern. It was probably a surprise for one of the best recruiters in the nation.
But then again, going after Young took Izzo out of Michigan, which has become his personal recruiting haven.
Through his eight full seasons at Michigan State, Izzo has led the Spartans to a pair of Big Ten titles, six straight NCAA tournament appearances and a National Championship. But what makes Izzo’s achievements all the more impressive is that the coach has filled a large portion of his talent-laden teams with Michigan prep stars.
