Two Evanston men were arrested early Saturday after robbing a Northwestern student, and one of the men has since been identified as a suspect in a previous attack on an NU student, police said.
The men — Anthony L. Jones, 20, of the 1300 block of Fowler Avenue, and Tavares T. Tyson, 21, of the 1800 block of Lemar Avenue — were charged with one count of felony theft each.
Jones was also charged with attempted robbery and aggravated battery after a police lineup Wednesday in which an NU student identified Jones as the man who attacked him on Oct. 3, said Cmdr. Michael Perry of Evanston Police department.
Evanston and Northwestern police arrested the men after they cornered and robbed a Northwestern graduate student shortly after midnight Saturday, Perry said. The men approached the student, demanded money and left the scene after the student gave them a $5 bill.
Perry declined to release further details about the arrest.
At the time of the arrest, both men were out on bond from a Nov. 8 arrest in which they were charged with stealing several items from Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity, Perry said.
Tyson and Jones are scheduled to appear Dec. 1 at Circuit Court in Skokie.
